Drawing from earlier work that considers ladders as a means of both access and escape, Exit Strategy is a permanent installation that plays with scale and site-specific context to call attention to the complicated legacy of gender narratives and feminist-driven storylines. The absurd size of this work challenges a viewer’s perspective and this deeply engrained endowment. Does this reality present a way out or does it simply lead from here to an equally untenable there? Does it ultimately offer access to a sustainable future? By calling attention to these questions, Exit Strategy asks the viewer to consider where this awareness leaves us as humans generally and women specifically.
